Platform is a series of new plays for young actors commissioned by Tonic Theatre and published by Nick Hern Books. Responding to the current lack of roles for girls in writing for young actors, all the plays in the Platform series have mainly or entirely female casts, and put young women and their stories at the heart of the action.
The first three plays in the series are: This Changes Everything by Joel Horwood, Second Person Narrative by Jemma Kennedy, and The Light Burns Blue by Silva Semerciyan. The second series added two new plays: The Glove Thief by Beth Flintoff and Red by Somalia Seaton.
We hope that schools, youth theatres, and young companies across the UK will stage their own productions of the plays. All of Tonic’s proceeds from script sales and amateur performance licences will be invested directly into commissioning further plays in the series.
The Platform plays are available as single editions via Nick Hern Books (RRP £8.99). However for a limited period, they will be on sale via this site at a specially reduced rate of £4.50 per copy (or less if buying in bulk) for education, youth and arts organisations. So if you’re from a school, college, university, student society, youth theatre, youth group, or an amateur or professional theatre organisation that works with young people, you can order your scripts here at the reduced rate.
